I've been working with a friend on another separate group sketchblog where we focus our sketches on weekly themes. This week's theme is "intense emotions". I was traveling last week and eating out at a variety of restaurants and it seemed like food was constantly on my mind. It got me thinking about whether it's possible to have "intense emotions" when it comes to food? It's been fun, but I'm not sure I captured what I'm looking for yet...back to the sketchbook.

Sketching shouldn't be hard. But when you can draw whatever you want, often you can think of anything. It's very annoying. So I came up with a way to solve the problem. I have three ziploc baggies with slips of paper on them. One bag contains characters, one contains things and one contains activities. Whenever I can't think of something to sketch, I draw slips of paper out of the bags. A couple days ago I drew, "hillbilly" and "Flying". Sometimes I put them together, sometimes separate. Hey, it works.

Orange pencil, brush pen and Painter on Moleskine
I've been wanting to draw and airplane for sometime now. Airplanes are the very first thing I remember drawing and they always evoke that feeling of freedom and imagination I had as a kid watching them fly over our home in Maryland as a kid. We lived under the flight path for Andrew's Airforce base where they had many air shows. If you were lucky you would see the president's plane, Airforce One fly over.

I often do little swatches in the back of my sketch book to test colors, waterproof ink, test how black some inks are compared to others...geeky, I know. I was working on that when I started sketching this. Not sure what or who it is...he, she, it, not sure. It has a an interesting mood that I like. I'm trying to work on a color palette to work with.
